What is your medium?
I blend oil paint with a cold wax medium using a palette knife, then apply 20 to 30 layers onto a wooden panel using a
spatula and a printer's roller called a brayer. Each layer is incised with various sharp tools for surface texture and interest.
Over time, some marks are obscured while others remain intact. Examine my paintings closely and you’ll discover underlying
colors peeking through the scratches. I also like to use transparent colors, which lend depth and luminosity to my paintings.
When dry, the surface boasts a highly durable, hard finish.
Wax as a paint medium dates back over 4,000 years to ancient Greece and Rome. It was later popularized in Egypt where
600 works survive from 100–300 A.D., a testament to its longevity and beauty through the ages.
